DREAM'S HOUSE

Created for Porto 2001, European Capital of Culture, and installed at the Palácio Vilar d'Allen, Casa de Sonhos is a completely closed volume measuring 4 × 5 × 5.5 metres. By day it stands as a dense, opaque black block, in dialogue with its surroundings. At nightfall, 80 photographs of skies are projected from inside across its entire surface: the original form dematerialises and the opaque volume becomes a dreamlike space of infinite vision, where the real and the unreal merge, alternating between the security of shelter and the adventure of the world. An essential representation of vernacular shelter and the ultimate reduction of the habitable form, the object stands in the landscape as something unreachable and untouchable, redefining the relationship between people and their surroundings and serving as a bridge between the earthly and the celestial.
