LIMIT
Made between 2004 and 2010, in the Azores.
Photographs of sea and sky, with the horizon line always in the middle of the photograph, on the horizontal axis. In this series the composition obeys a single rule, applied without exception: the horizon always divides the image into two exactly equal halves. This symmetry removes from the landscape any hierarchy between what is above and what is below, between sky and sea, reducing the photograph to an equation of balance. The title points to this condition: the limit is not merely geographical; it is the very structural principle of the image — the line that, in dividing, also sustains.
