RED LINE

In 2006, at the Meno Parkas gallery, in Kaunas, Lithuania, the group exhibition on the theme “beyond borders” brought together a set of diptychs.

Two of them join halves of houses made at different times and places; when united, they suggest the object house — a shelter that rises above any division or border. The other two diptychs start from images of the same place, but with altered framing; in one of them, one of the photographs is inverted, creating a structure that can only be imagined. This inversion unveils and subverts the system created by the other three diptychs, affirming the border not as a fixed line, but as an unstable construction, open to the gesture that frames it.
